09 Sep RESTORER – AN EXCITING NEW PROJECT
Our passion for recycle, repurpose, restore has taken flight and grown into an exciting new project. Over the past four years our team at The Storer have handpicked lifestyle products from exotic destinations which we curate both online and in-store, each having a unique appeal. These bespoke pieces, with their artisanal stories, have been included in some of the most beautiful homes around the country.
The ethos which we follow is a simple one, Reuse, Repurpose, Recycle and Restore. Recently we have had time to fine-tune these principles, to slow our pace and broaden our horizons. When we were presented with the opportunity to Restore a 90’s four-bedroom home for a young couple in Dainfern, we jumped at the opportunity. It is ever so easy to overlook those things that have faded and are out-of-date in favour of the new. But the problem with this and the current environmental crisis we face is the consumeristic trap we have all fallen into for years, creating more, consuming more.
So, with our Repurpose face on we approached this project with the intention of finding the beauty of this property. The large windows allowed an abundance of light into the home however the dark 90’s style fittings made the rooms look small and closed in. So, it seemed our task was set, how to enhance the natural light in the house and bring in The Storer characteristic texture and interest to meet the client’s lifestyle.
Our shop is a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of the JHB city life, and this is exactly the feel we want to bring into the space for our clients. To create a space filled with light, an escape from the challenges of the new normal. Honesty of materials was also high on our list when furnishing the interior spaces with handmade product from our retail space at 44 Stanley Ave, Braamfontein Werf, Johannesburg.
The space has been transformed from a dowdy 90’s house to a sanctuary from the outside world filled with exotic pieces from around the globe.
And so it is with great pride that the natural path forward for us at The Storer is RESTORER, an exciting new project dedicated to up-cycling faded old homes to exotic retreats.
